1. The Spring Festival

The Spring Festival (the Lunar New Year), is one of the greatest traditional festivals in China. It is usually a time between late January and early February, and starts on the first day of the first lunar month.
2)What’s the symbolic meaning of it?
The Spring Festival means rest and relaxation. It celebrates the coming of spring. It is also a time for family reunion.
3) How do people celebrate it?
Before the Spring Festival, people clean their houses, put red couplets on their gates, On the eve of the Spring Festival, all the family members get together to have a big family reunion dinner. The traditional and most popular food is Jiaozi. People believe it can bring us good fortune. After the dinner, the whole family will sit together and chat. Some people prefer to watch the Spring Festival Gala Evening. Some people would rather set off firecrackers and fireworks. According to custom, each family will stay up to see the New Year in. On the first day of the New Year, everybody wears new clothes and greets relatives and friends with best wishes.
4) What special food is eaten during Spring Festival?
The traditional and most important food eaten during the Spring Festival is Jiaozi. People believe that it can bring us good fortune. It’s usually a happy family time to make and eat Jiaozi together.

Yes, I have. When I was very young, my father and I played them during Spring Festival.
Playing firecrackers used to be(过去曾经是)one of the most important customs in the Spring Festival There is a story. Long ago, there was a monster called‘Nian’. He often eats people at the end of a year. People believe that playing firecrackers can scare the monster away because it was afraid of red color and loud noise. Now, people play firecrackers for good luck and good atmosphere of Spring Festival.
It is also an important entertainment for some people on the Spring Festival.
6). What are the disadvantages of playing firecrackers?
Playing fireworks and firecrackers is fun but there are many disadvantages.
Firstly, it is very dangerous. If you are not careful, it may hurt you and the people near by.
Secondly, it’s quite noisy. Many people don’t like loud noise. But the noise usually lasts for a few days during the Spring Festival. In addition, it’s bad for our environment. For example, playing firecrackers causes air pollution and trash. There is much unhealthy smoke in the air and tons of trash in the city after playing firecrackers. In my opinion, we’d better not play too much during the festival.
2. Lantern Festival
1) When is it?
It falls on the 15th day of the 1st lunar month, which marks the end of the Spring Festival. The 15th day is the first night to see a full moon. So the day is also called Yuan Xiao Festival in China.
2) How do people celebrate it?
The Lantern Festival also means family reunion. On this day, people will eat the traditional food-Yuanxiao. The most important activity is watching lanterns. Some people prefer to go to Lantern show in the park. They will try to solve the puzzles on the lanterns.
3. The Mid- Autumn Festival
1)When is it?
It often comes in September or October. It is on the 15th day of the 8th of the lunar month.
2)What’s the symbolic meaning of it?
This festival celebrates the harvest(收获) in autumn. It is also a time for family to get together and enjoy the full moon.It’s a day of pleasure and happiness. It’s like the Thanksgiving Day in western countries.
3)How do people celebrate it?
On this day, people usually get together with their families and have a nice meal. After that, in the evening, they will eat moon cakes and enjoy the full moon. The moon looks always very round, big and bright that day, and makes people think of their relatives and friends.
4. Qing Ming Festival
Qing Ming Festival is a traditional Chinese festival in April; it usually falls on April 4th, 5th or 6th. It means clear and bright. It celebrates the rebirth of nature. It’s a festival to worship the dead and express our grief to our lost relatives. Today, Chinese visit their family graves to pull the weeds and sweep the dirt. It is also a time for people to go outside and enjoy the greenery of springtime
5. The Dragon Boat Festival
It is on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. On that day, people eat Zongzi and hold dragon boat races to commemorate the great poet Chu Yuan. Zongzi is a very popular food during the Dragon Boat festival .This tasty dish consists of sticky rice with different fillings like meat, peanut, egg yolk, or other fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves.
6. Christmas Day
It is a very important religious festival in western countries like the Spring Festival in China. It celebrates the birth of Jesus. And it also means family reunion. It comes on December 25th. People have several days off from their work. They go back home to get together for a big dinner on Christmas Eve. A traditional Christmas dinner may include roast turkey, roast potatoes, cranberry sauce, and fruit pudding for dessert. Most families buy Christmas trees and the trees are decorated with small things and bright lights. Christmas is also a time for exchanging gifts. Children like the festival because they can receive many beautiful and lovely presents. At night children go to bed early, hang their stockings beside the beds and wait for Santa Clause. They think he comes down from the chimney and puts the presents into their stockings.
7. Halloween
It is on the night of October 31st. It is a happy time for children. At night they will dress up as ghost, monster, pirate or anything they like. Some children prefer to wear their costumes and put on masks to attend a costume party. After the party, they knock at neighbor’s door and say ‘trick or treat’. It means if you don’t give me the candies, I will play tricks on you! At last kids can get enough candies for one year. Children like it very much because they can play games and have much fun.
8. Thanksgiving Day
On this day, people prefer to express their gratitude to God, and say ‘Thank you.’ to their family and friends. (The most common view of its origin is that it was to give thanks to God for autumn harvest.) It is on the 4th Thursday in November. Family and friends will have a feast. The most important part of the thanksgiving is the food! There are three essential parts of the traditional Thanksgiving meal: turkey, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie.
